Gummo (1997)
Review by Ellouise Marney and Michael Bungay
Together we decided that the film ‘Gummo’ was a bit boring to our liking, due to the fact that there was very little actually happening which made it boring as there was a lot of random things happening at the same time which made no sense to the main plot of this film.
This did not appeal to what we thought the film would be by the title ‘Gummo’, it portrayed the thoughts that people had by including murders of cats, young ladies making their breast bigger and also trying to damage their body. There was also this young lad at the beginning who was wearing bunny ears on top of the motorway while doing anti-social behaviour to the people in their cars underneath. This film did not meet our cognitive needs by the fact that it made us think that it was a waste of time and money to film, along with the affective needs with think that there is some sorrow for the characters as they have just been hit by a tornado. But we are thankful that we don’t live in the states with the numerous of tornados that hit there and we don’t recommend this to other people. We think that this could be used as a educational value for people over the age of 17.
We don’t think that this is good for their target audience by the fact that it portrayed violence by having two brothers ‘play’ fighting in the kitchen over some silly thing.
In other words we think that this film is below expectations of what we thought this film was about. We would rate this film a 2 out of 5 stars.
